Sandra Khannouchi became interested in running at the age of 25 during her College education. She became attractive to the sport and since the beginning she uses the ability to learn through her own experience to become better in the sport and to help other. Her marathon career was short but enjoyable. She came in 4th place in her first marathon in Roan, France in 1989 and won her third Marathon Palermo Marathon in 1990 in Italy. During her professional running career she has the opportunity to represent her native country (Dominican Republic) in major championship. Her first was The World Track and Field Championship in Japan in 1991.
In 1997 Sandra decided to step from Professional running to Coach and guide professional athletes.
One of them is Khalid Khannouchi. Sandra took over Khalid running career in 1996 and guided him through 2 world records (1999, Chicago Marathon; 2h05:42 and 2002 London Marathon; 2h05:38) and 4 time victory at the La Salle Bank Chicago Marathon. Her philosophy in coaching marathon runners had helped several athletes to achieve personal best. Including Patrick Kiptum who came to her with a personal best of 2h17 in 2000 and guided him to a second place at the Rock and Roll Marathon with the time of 2h13:38.
Now beside coaching professional athletes and recreational runners, she does clinic in marathon all over US and Latin American Countries teaching other how to become a better faster runner and to keep away from injuries. She also act as an active agent for the runners that are under her supervision.

Coach to world-class marathon runners, Mrs. Khannouchi emphasizes low mileage at a high quality for marathon training. Mimicking this coaching technique, recreational athletes are brought to their highest level of fitness and ability under her direction. Cross training is a key element during all phases of training especially injury rehab. A good example of this is the fast come back and even faster times her husband, marathon world-record holder; Khalid Khannouchi has every time he comes from an injury.

Bachelor of Science: City College of New York AA degree from Hostos Community College

National Record Holder in the Dominican Republic, her native country. Won two her last eight marathons, finished in the top ten in the other six. Ninth place finisher in 1992 Chicago Marathon.
